About T41p's average temperature

#1 Post by Tim82 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 4:18 pm

Hello!

Can I say that the average temperature of my T41p (between 55-62 Celsius, as TPFancontrol shows) is normal? CPU usage is below 50% nearly all the time (netsurfing, download, music listening). Under some pressure (such as 720p mkv-files playing) the temperature jumps to 70-75 Celsius.

With Banias 1.7 the machine was hotter (+ 4-5 Celsius). That was my reason to buy a Dothan 1.7 (I know, it's not really an upgrade, but I had an opportunity to buy it dirty cheap).

Oh, and one more thing: I cleaned the fan nearly two weeks ago (with pressured air can), so I can't say the "intestines" of my companion :) are dusty.

As always, thanks in advance. :)

A couple of things here:

a) The main source of heat is your GPU, not your CPU. You may want to consider upgrading to a "long" fan if you don't already have one.

b) Undervolting the GPU should also help.

c) If you already have the "long" fan, you may want to consider re-applying the thermal paste.

Hope this helps.

Thank You.

I have the long fan. I used thermal paste after cleaning. Perhaps I should do again (cleaning and re-applying). One never knows if missed something, must be precise. :)

I dont think your heat is excessive.

I just upgraded my T40 to a 2000 CPU, and using the fan program in smart mode it lets it heat up more to like 60-65C before turning fan on.

If I just let BIOS control it, temps are like 50C but fan is running continuously.

My T42p UXGA Dothan 1.7Ghz CPU normally runs at 35 deg C or so. When it is doing a big job then it gets to 60 deg C +. The power setting is "Adaptive".
