Fruitcake

1 C. water
1 C. Sugar
4 large eggs
2 C. dried fruit
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 C. brown sugar
Lemon Juice
Nuts
1 gallon whiskey

Sample the whiskey to check for quality.
Take a large bowl.
Check the whiskey again to make sure it is of the highest quality.
Pour 1 level cup and drink. Repeat.

Turn on the electric mixer.
Beat 1 C. butter in a large fluffy bowl.
Add 1 t. sugar and beat again.
Make sure the whiskey is still OK. Cry another tup.

Turn off the mixer.
Break 2 legs and add to the bowl.
Chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
Mix on the turner.
If the fried fruit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the whiskey to check tonsistency.
Next, shift 2 C. salt. Or something. Who cares?
Check the whiskey.
Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something.
Whatever you can find.

Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees.
Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Throw the bowl out the window.
Ceck the whiskey again. Go to bed.
Who likes fruitcake anyway?

I forwarded the recipe to a friend. This was his reply:

"Some made the night other was it ludicious. Making a batch another."

Another Irish recipe:

Take one potato and bake in oven. Serve with chips, and garnish with a few crisps.

P.S. Chips = US fries, Crisps = US chips.

Hi RealBlackStuff,
So where do you find decent Guinness in the US? I found what I can only call a poor version when I was in Washington DC some years ago.
Generally I thought the beer over there was awful ... fizzy, chemical stuff served at freezer temperature. It was possible to get Bass in bottles and the occasional bottle of Guinness but most of the beer was US Budweiser or Michelob. I'd rather tip those down the pan to save having to go for a wee in the night.
Maybe you have your own import channel?
Anyway, happy New Year, and I'll sink a few pints on your behalf. :D

Believe it or not, there are a few places in my area that serve up a halfway decent pint.
Mind you, the longer you are away from St. James' Gates, the less critical you become...
I'm a Dublin man, but secretly I do prefer Murphy's

Murphy's is much smoother than Guinness. IMO, it has slightly less of a bitter taste.
However in the desert I'd take either. Good luck to you, mate. May all your dreams be there before you wake up.

RealBlackStuff,
According to a Dublin man interviewed on 'Coast', a TV programme made by BBC and Open University, the word 'Dublin' comes from the Gaelic meaning Blackpool. (Dub means dark or black, and Lin means pool or pond.) Maybe you already knew this but I didn't. It made me smile to think how different the Irish Blackpool is from the English one. :)

A well known fact, but thanks anyway.
