Error after using T30 Recovery disks

#1 Post by thinkxplx » Wed Dec 24, 2008 8:22 pm

I used T30 recovery disks to re-install xp pro on a new hard drive.

After installation when the system tries to reboot, it displays a few files and an error message and then re-boots. This goes on and on.

Directory already exists
Reading source files
c:\IBMWORK\SYSPREP\SYSPREP.INF
c:\IBMWORK\SYSPREP\winbom.ini
c:\IBMWORK\SYSPREP\WINBOM.ORC
c:\IBMWORK\SYSPREP\I386\$OEM$\CMDLINES.TXT

Bad Command or file name.

Any idea what go be wrong.?

TIA

I installed Win XP Pro on a new HDD last Spring. Here are my notes...

IBM Product Recovery Program ver 5.7 on three CD(s).

Step 1)

Reinstall Product Recovery Program into hidden area?

[Y] or [N]

I chose [Y]

My computer reboots twice

Copies files from all three CD's. Then, installs WIN XP PRO using the hidden partition

My Observation...

If you do not receive this question, then use DOS FDISK to delete all HDD partitions.

Step 2)

Main Menu
Factory Contents
Reformat hard disk
Install Windows XP
Install device drivers
Install pre-installed applications

Step 3)

Agree to Microsoft end user license agreement?
[Y]

Step 4)

WARNING - Delete all data files
Confirm? [Y]

Step 5)

WARNING - Reformat Hard Disk
Confirm? [Y]

Step 6)
IBM Product Recovery Graphic Screen
Entire Process Meter 2%
Copied Data Meter 2%
Time Elapsed

-----------------------

To answer your question...

My computer does not have c:\IBMWORK directory, after the WIN XP PRO install has completed. You could delete that directory, but I would probably use DOS FDISK to delete hidden and data partitions -- just to insure that you have a fresh install.

----------------------

Immediately afterwards, I installed MS Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD. Earlier, I ordered it from Microsoft's website. It is free, but you must pay for shipping costs.

ROBERT123 - Thanks a lot. I will try what you suggested and see if it makes a difference.
