What did you get as a gift this christmas?

#1 Post by gator » Thu Dec 25, 2008 7:41 am

I'm sure that santa bought nice things to those of use who've not been naughtty :santa: What gifts did you get this christmas?

I'll start: I got 'the complete idiots guide to american football' from my friend, to help me on my way to being a monday morning quarterback. :)

I don't think I was extra nice or anything, but I gave myself the following:
1. My first ever sets of properly formal clothes for daily wear at work and a pair of leather  shoes (got some great deals online)
2. A vacation at ruidoso for 4 days
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

Well, I don't go to my family's until later today, but I gave myself a Kindle before they sold out.

I got a black Izod sweater, a pair of leather gloves, some cologne and my parents told me they'll pay for me to take the A+ certification test.

Received a feather from Bill.

The ol' ball and chain is on his way here and claims to be bearing gifts. Updates to come.

Oh, and I got lots and lots of candy.

UPDATE: Ball and chain came over. Got more candy, some shorts, some movie theatre gift cards and a few CDs.

I gave my son-in-law an opportunity to go up the (otherwise unaccesible to the public) upper reaches of the CN Tower. He asked to go, and liked that as much as anything. Client work for me.

I got (amongst other things) train cars. Now you know about my Avatar. .... JDH

A set of harmonicas  , some guitar strings and picks, an accordion sheet music book... An old GBA game, a mini lawn gnome (funny story behind that...), and a chocolate orange. And a few other things. I also got to set up my sister's new S10, which was almost like a present to be able to do.

But alas, no computer gadgets for me this year. The ultimate gift would've been that x61 tablet I've been waiting a couple years for. :?

But a happy Christmas, nonetheless. :D

jdhurst, my 3yo nephew is just getting over a train obsession. He would even dream about trains. My brother-in-law became an expert on all things train, and now he's finding all of this knowledge for not. He had some cool train sets though. Kid-oriented not real model stuff, but kid stuff is getting cool these days. Brother-in-law says he's sad and is going to miss the trains.

This year my siblings all decided to save money and only get gifts for the kids. But I did get two Calphalon pots, my old ones were flaking Teflon.

I was into trains when I was little. In fact, I still have a shelf full of train-related toys and models from then... Been meaning to clear them out.

I got a Floating Globe. The only problem is where to put it :??: it clearly states "not next to computers", because of the electromagnets I guess

Andrew:

I guess that the "computers" there referred to is those having (old-fashioned) CRT's [Cathode Ray Tubes] since the semi-permanent magnets inside Floating Globes will distort the image on a CRT, if being placed too close to a CRT. I can't see how Floating Globes would however affect neither laptops nor external LCD's?

Merry Christmas! :santa:

Winter Solstice

#17 Post by ArtShapiro » Fri Dec 26, 2008 8:53 pm

I'm not at all into mythological holidays, but my frequent riding partner in the cycling club outdid herself this year on my Winter Solstice gifts.

She gave me two pair of socks, including this one:

http://www.ocrebels.com/socks.jpg that had me grinning all day. :)

Also a full one-pound chocolate Santa, and a smaller 5 oz. one.

And, to top it off, the same fancy cyclocomputer that I had given her for her birthday a couple months back. I really didn't need a new one, as this one only has one function that mine doesn't have (the road gradient or "tilt"), so I'm a bit awed by that expenditure.

... you get a broadcast spreader for Christmas ... and are pleased at the gift. Actually, it's a little one to pull behind a lawn tractor, but it's darn nice to have. Other stuff was some lined sweats, one pair of Levi 505s (with a scoosh more room), and an Armor-All car cleaning kit (hint, hint?).

Heh, My wife and daughter had it hid in my daughters room (I don't go in there). Then on Christmas eve they ran me all over the house chasing clues on notes. The last note led me to a closet in my daughters room where it was hidden.
Huh, I wonder where they learned that trick :?:

A 3-day trip to Los Angeles to spend some time with my older daughter. We just got back from Disneyland where she used the money my wife and I gave her and her boyfriend to renew their season passes. The Mouse Kingdom was packed as is usual for this time of year but they will have plenty of chances to go back during the "off-season". I'll be here in LA until Wednesday when I drive back home.

We had a wonderful Christmas this year since my DH is feeling so very well after his heart bypass surgery last month. Money is very lean now since he isn't working, so we gave each other a nice pair of slippers and I knitted him a winter scarf with alpaca yarn. I am happy to say it was our best Christmas yet.
