They have brand new ones on ebay for 28 bucks shipped. Well, 9.99 plus way over inflated shipping, but still cheaper than thru ibm.

It should do. It works on a T23 for sure. ... JD Hurst

it will work, but is not recommended. It is 56 Watts. Recommended one is 72 Watts.

my last question might've been ambiguous. i'll try again:
would the same 72 Watt (4.5 Amps) adapter (eg, 02K6699, 02K6753, suggested by Leon) work for both T22 and T42. I assume it is designed for the T42 though, right?

Yes. The 72W ones I recommended are good for both!

Same Amps or more (with of course, same volts) will work with what the computer is rated. Using a power brick with less amps than what the computer is rated for will cause the brick to over-heat and eventually short out. It also does not give your TP enough juice to charge the battery adequately. If you use an off brand (although not recommended), make sure the barrel plug is the same size and same polarity.
