T61P Modding Questions & Issues

#1 Post by Kamika007z » Sat Dec 27, 2008 2:22 pm

Hi all!

I just purchased a 14.1 SXGA+ T61p (8891- CTO running a T8300) and installed the Bluetooth and the T60 LCD top to have a symmetrical screen. :) I also was able to find room for the white u:fl mini-coaxal cable and fitted that into the LCD as well for the N card.

Now I would like to install (when time and money permits it) a T9500 processor. Does anyone know which one is the correct one? I'm going to take a look at Intel's datasheets to see which is which, but I figured I'd ask here first. Is it the SLAQH or the Q9WW?

Also, I am having an issue when the machine is running for a little however when running Vista Ultimate, with Aero turned on, and there are a few windows open, Aero starts to act sluggish when dragging windows around. Games such as Left 4 Dead run fine so I doubt its a cooling issue. I updated the machine with the latest supplied nVidia 57M drivers from Lenovo and it also has 4GB ram installed as well. Is this a known issue mechanically, or a Vista thing when it comes to nVidia cards? :)

Another issue as well is that at random times, the startup sound to Windows Vista stutters. Has anyone come across this and a fix as well?

Please let me know. Thank you all in advance.

Thank you!

Anyone know anything regarding the slowdown issue with Aero glass when dragging?

Any thoughts on anything would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thank you!

I have pretty much the same machine and CPU with 3Gb of memory and Vista Business 64-bit. I eliminated Aero and with pretty much everything else Vista stands for and the resulting setup is a fast as blazes. Nothing drags at all. I went through the entire machine and set everything for maximum performance (and in particular, the display is plain Windows Classic with ALL eye candy turned off).

Try taking out the second RAM stick - there's a known issue on the T61p with both memory slots occupied and 3D grapics running. Doesn't usually happen with just Vista Aero (from what I can gather) but worth a try. There is a service bulletin for motherboard replacement if this is your problem.

Thank you both!

Regarding the service bulletin, where can I read about this more?

Thanks again,

Not sure if you still have the problem, but I easily solved it myself with PowerMizer Switch. For some reason the GPU/drivers are interrupting your audio stream, making it skip. Set it to off, or at least turn the AC power setting off. http://www.box.net/shared/v7jpoateoq

I had the same problems as the OP and using this to turn off PowerMizer solved all the glitches. Thanks a lot. :)
