T61 Digi output

#1 Post by AlAcker » Sat Dec 27, 2008 2:25 pm

I have the ultra nice docking station for my T61 that has digi out but the laptop itself doesn't have that output... what's the easiest way to get that output with the T61p for travel mode ( don't want to lug around the large docking station.

Thanks,
Al

Hmmm, 'Digi output', are we talking about DVI digital video output or SPDIF digital audio output?

Really, there isn't a simple way.

If you happen to work with TVs/monitors that can accept DVI-A (analog signal over DVI), you can use a cheap $3 convertor plug (like what is shipped with most videocards, only the other way).

However, most TVs/monitors cannot accept DVI-A, and if they could, it wouldn't benefit you, since it would be the same analog signal you get out of the VGA anyway.

To truly convert VGA into DVI-D (digital) you need some active converter. You might be able to find one that isn't expensive and isn't big, but I cannot recommend any specific ones.

And still, you won't get better quality by converting analog VGA back to digital DVI, so I am not sure what the gain would be.

Ok, understand the need for an active converter... I'll keep looking. I think the smaller docking station has dvi out also... I may have to go that route.

Take a look at this. The same manufacturer also has a product called VTBook, which is a PC-Card solution.
