recommendation for webcam?

#1 Post by basketb » Sat Dec 27, 2008 3:04 pm

As the title says, I'm looking for recommendations for a webcam.
Requirements:
- needs to fit on top of Thinkpad LCD (T6x, R52)
- good quality (much more important than low price)
- easy installation
- ???

Any suggestions? Thx.

There is one from Microsoft that I think will well for you. I don't know the model off the top of my head, but it is slim and black to match the thinkpad.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I was looking for a webcam about two months ago and almost all review sites were recommending Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 (around $70 at Amazon). I didn't want to spend that much so I went with the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX. I bought it from Deal Barn through Amazon for $33.48 shipped.
The camera is excellent. I am using it with Skype in Kubuntu, XP and Vista and it works flawlessly, colors are great even in low light... I would definitely recommend it.

I heard Microsoft's cameras VX3000 and especially VX6000 are excellent but may fail to perform to full extent if you are not using Microsoft's live messenger.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I bought a Logitech QuickCam Communicate Deluxe. So far, it works very well and we are happy with it.
