Ghosting to a single CD

#1 Post by ishinryu » Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:36 am

Has anyone successfully managed to Ghost an X31 system partition to a single CD? I have XP Home with SP2 and removed the i386 folder but the Ghost image still took 3 CDs albeit the 3rd contained just a fragment.

Not yet. What advantages does it offer over Norton Ghost?

Have you tried a more compressed image?

The Ghost switches for compression is Z1 thru Z9

Z1 = least compressed & fastest image creation
Z9 = most compressed & slowest image creation

Never used the switches as I thought the GUI provided the same functionality. I am offered No, Fast and High (compression) so I chose High. Are you suggesting that there is an even higher compression ratio?

backing up to a LAN means there is not a limitation on size of the backup..

true image seems to be much more flexible than ghost ver. 8..
i have not bothered yet with ghost ver. 9, yet..

true image will hand you a bootable clone image with XP SP2..
ghost ver. 8 does not..
something to do wuith two boot sectors or something..

In regards to Acronis TrueImage, can I use version 6 to clone hidden partitions with it by booting with a CD or USB key? A friend of mine has that version but maybe it's to old to do that...if anyone knows, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how it compares to the GUI but I do know that the Z9 switch is the max, give it a try. At worst it's a wasted CD and time.

Don't know about v6 but in v8 it can. In v8, using a CD to boot and before the image begins, I can see the hidden partition in the list of partitions to select for the image.

P.S. I do believe upgrades of Acronis TI are free.
