trouble with fan asembly

#1 Post by kam_ » Mon Dec 29, 2008 8:45 am

I've read the hardware maintenance manual for my t43p and it says to pry up the fan assembly at a certain place. It lifts easily from that place, but on the bottom right is another chip that it seems to be glued onto with some thick black stuff. That part just wont lift off the main board

any ideas?

EDIT: i tried to pry it up till i heard a crack *yikes*.
laptop is still ok, everything boots so i think i was lucky... but the fan assembly is really stuck to it, no idea how to get it off

The problem is the fan is making a wierd noise, i cleaned out the fan area with compressed air, which helped but its making the noise again. I thought removing the fan assembly and cleaning it properly might work. Any other way to clean it properly without removing it?

Below the black stuff is a pink sheet. It just take some effort to get it off. Try to lift it by hand and not with a tool. The thermal grease on the CPU is not sticky.
