T22 Continuous restarting screens but won't boot up

#1 Post by T22owner » Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:38 pm

My T22 has win2k pro on it. 2647-8gu. It no longer boots. When you press the power button the "starting windows" screen comes up and then it goes to the IBM screen. Then the screen goes blank and it returns to the "starting windows" screen where it starts the cycle again. I've let it sit for 20 minutes or so and it just keeps recycling in starting up mode.

Right before it started this I had a blue screen come up with a message about a non compliant BIOS. I have not changed or updated anything with that before or after the problem started. That screen has only come up 1 other time.

I tried booting from the win 2k disc and it did boot up once, but the battery was dead and the unit shut down. Since then it's a no go.

What do I need to try next?

Remove everything you can try it on just AC power, try it on just a battery. move the memory around. reflash the bios.

Appears the memory was the issue. After moving them around in different positions it looks like one of them is bad. Now that it's out, the T22 seems to work fine again.

Thanks :P

Cool the easiest fix of all.

I've had at least 10 T2x thinkpads, and all were rock solid I had one fan go bad, I soaked it in alcohol and 1 drop of 3&1 oil fixed it.
