with regard to the speed tests:

Those X41 HDD speeds look very slow. What OS are you running? Is the drive running in UDMA mode? If so which?

Does your X41 have the slow 4K rpm HDD? Sorry for all the questions but those speeds look bad! Can't help but think something is amiss.

I too have an X31, used for travel, it's in the closet right now so can't test it but, did test this T41. Here's the results using HD Tack v2.70:

read max. 60.3
read min. 36.1
avg. 55.3 MB/s (nearly DOUBLE those highest avg.'s)
CPU 26%
OS Win98SE

HDD = WD2500BEVE (Western Digital 250GB PATA)
Same drive is used in the X31. If you have a real burning desire for those numbers let me know, I'll pull it from the closet and check.

could not the moderator put the **PIC** to subject ?
all tested on windows xp as described and now i wanted to try testing Samsung 16GB CF at 150x speed on the X41 but i was unable to install windows xp on it but linux ubutnu installed without problems
and worked - booted faster then the orginal 1.8HDD 4200rpm on X41 with WindowsXP but cant't test it because HDD Tune runs on windows only and not Linux :(

The 1.8" drives in the X40/X41 are 4200rpm which accounts for their slow performance.

5400 / 4200 = 1.28
28.8 / 16 = 1.8

So only part of the performance difference relates to the greater speed of the 5400 drive. AFAIR, the bigger difference is consistent with other reports. 5400 is sweet.

Right.. smaller data density is another big part...
