Rescue & Recovery Password Problem

#1 Post by Diver4243 » Wed Dec 31, 2008 4:16 pm

Any idea where the password is kept when Rescue & Recovery 4.2.x is pulling the backups from a USB drive? Obviously somewhere on the USB drive with the backups, but every time I try to restore it asks for a password, and I give it the only password I've used, but it still fails. I've only used one password and in fact I thought i had turned that feature off at one point. I have a blank hard drive in the hard drive bay so it can't be getting it from anywhere else, other than maybe the rescue CD i'm booting from?

If I can find a trick for disabling the password check on a USB restore similar to renaming the c:\ibmtools directory that has worked for folks who are restoring from their primary drive, I would be happy.

I need to resolve this or I lose years of work. Support has been not helpful. I see TONS of issues related to this and I'm hoping someone from engineering or support who knows how this works will reach out. Until then I'm toast with 8 years of work data gone. I've trusted this software and backed up with it religiously, I can see all of my backups on my USB drive, and need desperately to restore this data. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Did you try no password at all?

Yeah, I did try that, empty password. No luck in that one either.

Thanks, I saw those and read them. I googled this pretty extensively.

Those are related to other Rescue and Recovery configurations, i.e. hard disk partition. I'm trying to restore from backups on USB so those threads won't help.

I'm going to have to rely on someone who might know how I can get past this particular situation, unfortunately.

Yes I didn't know how knowledgeable you were about this subject until I started Googling around. This seems like a common problem, I'm suprised customer service can't help. All I can say is that ryengineer also post on this forum.
