R51 modem/bluetooth fru's

#1 Post by powerdoc » Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:01 pm

Have an R51 which didn't have bluetooth as standard equipment which keeps giving me the 1803 error with the modem I installed which has fru 39t0028. Which fru's will work with my bios (newest, 3.23 I think) and not give the 1803 error? Pardon me if this has been posted x to the n number of times but I really didn't want to go through 928 responses!

Welcome to the forum!

Ah, the 1803 error, I've seen it too with my R51 and the 39t0028 CDC. You must have the Intel video chipset because the 39T0028 should work with ATI.

The good news is you can get rid of the error, just install an 27R1880 card. That's what I use in mine; it works in W98, W2K, XP (well, you get the idea)!

You may be able to find one in the Market Place here, or on eBay.

Actually, I do have the ATI motherboard. There used to be a bios workaround but all the sites that mirrored it are dead url's. I guess it's buying ANOTHER one... not like it's the first time the bios has 1802'd or 1803'd me with thinkpads!

Hmmm, well the ol' memory isn't serving me correctly (my response above was written 'off the cuff', glad you mentioned your chipset). I've written on the forums about the R51 Intel / ATI video and the BT adapters ... goes back a while.

Here's a sure way to get the right CDC, go to:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 53115.html

Find the BT CDC block, match your model R51 to a BT CDC P/N.

BTW, I've just looked at the list and the 27R1880 mentioned above is not listed, although it IS in my PC (physically checked) and works with any OS, no 1803 error!). But remember, it has the INTEL video chipset.

After checking the service parts list, if you need a 91P7315, I have one here if you care to make an offer.

All the best!
