Happy New Year! ^_^ Hope '08 treated you all well and that '09 treats you better. Have a wonderful new year, and God bless you all. Hope this forum is still around for a few more years! :D

A little celebratory recording I did on the spot: http://oldmanclayton.webs.com/newyears8-cool.wav

No, it did not. Where I thought 2008 would be a year to wind down, now it looks to be 2018 before I can even think about. The financial losses have been colossal and crippling. Many pensions have been totally ruined. I was born after the war, let alone the depression, and 2008 is by any account worse than the depression. A year to forget as it will take many of us 5 to 10 years to make up the losses. Sorry for the negative reality, but reality it is. ... JDH

I wouldn't necessarily say it's worse than the depression, but then again, I wasn't there. I'm sorry that was how it went... I had a relatively good year though, so it's by no means reality for everyone. Hope '09 is better for ya. Nothing to do but stay sane and live through it. :)

Thank you so much for your understanding, but at this point, given the circumstances, I may not be able to stay sane enough to even survive the coming year. Oh well. ..... JDH

I sincerely hope that you're kidding. Is it really that bad?

I never imagined one person could lose so much money inside a single year. I shall probably survive, but where I live, the current government does not value life or any kind of justice, so without leaving home, who knows what will happen. Again - many, many thanks for your concern. ..... JDH

Happy Hogmanay!!

#8 Post by snohog » Thu Jan 01, 2009 12:06 am

Well, my first post of the year - it is still 2008 in Texas - and may be the last. I learned today that the Scotts would start the new year and celebrate with a Happy Hogmanay. Sounds like fun to me!

However, I embarked on a task to buy a used T42 and get it into a work horse. In the last hour this forum has enlightened me much. I anticipate hanging around for more tips.

Thanks to the post of wisdom from the wise.

@OldManClayton - well, the year finished with a significant market uptick, and at least I loss less than I imagined when I started. So the RRSP's are starting to revive, and my Corporate business revenue was larger than imagined since this was to be a year of winding down. Now I can manage to work at a somewhat reduced pace for a couple more years and we shall see. Still, like most people I fell back several years of growth in Pension assest. That leaves none of us very happy at Government stupidy, greed and inaction in many countries. Oh how we manage dumb politicians.
