cheaper alternative to x200?

I'm wondering about a cheaper (non thinkpad) alternative to the x200. I really love thinkpads, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to shell out more than $1000. Can anyone recommend high quality, cheaper alternatives? Do any exist!?

honestly from what I've heard the s10 is very high quality, cheap but not a powerhouse .
