X61 2.18 BIOS Update

#1 Post by Kamika007z » Fri Jan 02, 2009 12:50 pm

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that the 2.18 BIOS has been out, but I have not seen any posts regarding this update through the forum search feature. :)

Has anyone had any issues with this? It updates the video card BIOS.

I updated to this BIOS perfectly fine, however, I do notice my video lag under a little more under Counter-Strike: Source, whereas before it would not lag like this.

Can anyone confirm this?

Best,
Kamika007z

i've been running a modified version of 2.18 for almost a month and haven't seen any degradation in performance in any of my 2D or 3D apps.   however, i'm not a gamer and can't comment on game performance.

the logical solution would be to go back to 2.17 if 2.18 gives you problems or to play games on a different system (if that's an option).

Thank you Erik,

Naturally I can go back to a prior version, however I'm not looking for a 'fix', rather I am asking if anyone else has noticed this symptom or am I simply seeing a 'placebo effect' of some sort. :)

Also, you're signature states that you are running an X61s which is very different in performance. I'm running a 7675-CTO model, which I should've mentioned before. My apologies on not mentioning this earlier. :)

I am however, interested in regards to what your BIOS is modified in? :)

So do tell!

Everyone else: Have you seen any 3D applications (or games) performing slower with this perticular BIOS installed?

Thanks again,
Kamika007z

my BIOS is modified with the SXGA+ microcode to drive my display and the no-1802/1803 hack to allow non-whitelisted WLAN/WWAN cards.   nothing was done to change performance in any way.

here's why:

I have the v2.18 BIOS installed on a X61 7676 and haven't noticed any difference in 3D rendering for engineering applications running under Vista x64.

Cheers,

solidworks 2008 SP3.1 works fine for me under server 2008 enterprise x64 on the X61s.

Thank you erik!

Any 3D game players out there that would like to comment on performance?

I also have the latest Intel video drivers installed from Intel.com

Thanks in advance,
Kamika007z
