Ever since I purchased an used X32 in good condition, I've found myself using my T61 less and less. However the brightness on the X32 isn't that great, neither is its 1024x768 resolution.
Has anyone upgraded the LCD to a higher resolution (is this even possible) or successfully replaced the light sources in the lid assembly?
Upgrade screen on X32 is it possible?

I don't think anyone ever bothers to replace the CCFL lamps in the LCD. It's difficult and risky, and you don't save much compared to buying the new LCD assembly.
As far as getting a high-res screen, well, the only 12" non-widescreens with resolution higher than XGA were the SXGA+ screens on the X6x Tablets. Quite a few people would love to transplant one of these into a non-Tablet X series, but I do not know whether anyone has succeeded.

Based upon the posts that people have submitted here, I think that there's a fair amount of activity in user-performed CCFL replacements. If you look at it from a cost-versus-risk aspect, a $20 bulb ($10 part and $10 shipping is about the average) and an hour or two worth of time, could mean that you'd be saving yourself $80 (assuming you can find an XGA screen for the X31 for $100). If you botch the repair job, then you have to go out and buy another screen anyway so it ends up being $20 more than if you never tired the replacement at all.
Note that I've not tried doing this CCFL replacement yet. I've got a couple of burned out panels that are quietly waiting their turn to be reborn. A couple of them are UXGA panels so the cost savings are going to be more than $80 for me
