lcd defective?

#1 Post by mnezor » Fri Jan 02, 2009 5:04 pm

Hello to everybody and I wish you Happy new year!

I got a problem with the display of my R60 ... suddenly 4 days ago , appeared one vertical white-line 1 pixel wide , half inch from the left side of the display.
I made my search to the forum, and I found that this is a problem with LCD or cable or inventer... but most propably the lcd is defective.
Also I made a print screen and the image apeared o.k without the vertical line... so I guess the graphichs card is ok.

But something weird happens here ... when the thinkpad goes on stand-by mode.... and I open it after 15 minutes .. then the vertical line for 3-5 seconds isnt there and then appears again !

So what happening...?
Maybe is a power issue , or temperature ?

thanks in advance!

I'd vote for a temperature-related failure in one of the column driver transistors in the display. It won't be the inverter; that part just provides the voltage to light the backlight. It also is probably not the ribbon cable if it affects only a single line of pixels. If your system is still under warranty, then I'd see if this type of failure is covered.

Unfortunately no guarantee ... the thinkpad is already 20 months old.
So I have to search for a new display?
Any good place to find one where shipping to Greece is an option?

Please I need some help ....

Is this lcd suitable for my R60?
http://global.ebay.com/LENOVO_THINKPAD_ ... 83618/item

Is it possible to install a better LCD ... I mean with better viewing angles...?

Is it easy to install it myself or i need special tools or knowledge?

My R60:
Model:9461-54G
Part Number:UL154GM
Serial Number:L3AA783
Also see my signature.

Thank you very much in advance!

Well, in the EBay auction they don't give any part numbers, but the specs certainly match. Contact the seller and ask if they guarantee compatibility with all 15" R60's. If they do, I'd go for it. No special tools are required, but you will need the maintenance manual.
