Should I exchange my x61s with an x200 or x200s ??

#1 Post by TJMacGyver » Fri Jan 02, 2009 9:21 pm

Or not at all? :)

I have the opportunity to buy a cheap, brand new Thinkpad.
I don't have all the specs on the machines, but it's so cheap that i WILL be cheap no matter the configuration :)

I can choose between these:

x200 ~ 1400$
Intel P8400
2x2GB PC3-8500 ram
Integrated 56K
Intel WIfi link 5000 series
4 cell battery
100GB@7200

w500 ~ 1550$
Intel P8400
2x2GB PC3-8500 ram
Integrated 56K
Intel WIfi link 5000 series
15" 1920x1200
AMD M82XT hybrud 512MB
9 cell battery
bluetooth
DVD-RW
100GB@7200

As I said, I don' think these are the complete specs.

I know that a w500 i way to big for me, as I'm currently very happy with my x61s. But I could choose that one, then resell it and make about 800$ (TP's are very expensive in Denmark)
Then I could either pocket the 800 bucks, or sell my x61s and put it all into buying an x200s

I could probably nearly finance the price of the x200 with the sale of my x61s +ultrabay

I'm at a loss, and I have to choose which of the two I wan't to buy, by monday :(

Please help :)

Well, if W500 is way too big for you, why not go for a T400? :D With a P8400 and 4 GB of RAM you could probably have it for about 1000$. It is portable, not too small, not too big, it´s running very cool (from what I have seen), it has good battery life and switchable graphics, display with LED backlit and decent resolution... (I guess this wasn´t exactly the answer you have expected :)).

No it wasn't :)

Also I can't go back to "Fullsize" laptops after I have had an X61s. :)

I actually also had the option to choose the T400 a little cheaper than the X200 (~100$) it wasn't a very good configuration though.

and remember I live in Denmark. The absolute cheapest T400 I can find right now is ~1800$ And if I would try and buy one from the US, it would be just as expensive after customs.

I ended up choosing the X200, I'm not sure it was the right choice, as I'm still thinking about the X200s, and I think I could have made a bigger profit on reselling the W500 :D

The main things that is pulling me towards an X200s is the higher resolution, thinner and lighter.
but on the other hand, I'm used to looking at 1024x768 on the x61s, I actually don't know how much lighter the 'S'-model is, and maybe I will be happy with the 'mega' powerboost over my X61s@1.4ghz

I guess you can still resell that W500 in Denmark to cover some of the expenses on X200 :P

I could only buy one of them :(

And I chose the X200. And I'm getting it this saturday, so guess if I'm excited :D
and even better it turned out I will be getting it ~200$ cheaper than expected.:)

But I still don't know whether I should try and sell it, and get an x200s instead, quite a dilemma.

And I bet I can't resist opening it up, which is stupid if I decide to resell it, as I could probably get a little more if it was still sealed.:)

I just wanted to say that I have just received my new X200, and it's even better and cheaper than I expected :)

It came with a larger HDD than expected (160Gb@7200)

Then it also had a fingerprint reader, bluetooth and the camera, which I thougt I wouldnt get :)

When I opened the lid on the machine I saw the little Icon for the WWAN card and couldn't believe my luck, and I shouldn't have :D Because I opened up the machine, and the card wasn't there :(

And did I mention, it also has a 3 year on-site warranty :D

so all in all a great deal, 6800kr (~1200$) for a machine that would normaly cost about 13.000kr (~2200$) :D

But I must say, I'm still a little split between keeping it and selling it to get an x200s

I would go for the higher resolution (unless you have very sensitive eyes) :D
