memtest86+ on T400 dies - anyone ever get it to work?

#1 Post by tbessie » Tue Jan 06, 2009 3:11 am

I've been trying to figure out some issues of BSOD's and other things on my T400. I thought I'd run memtest86+ on it to check memory. However, after running just a little while it always says "Unexpected Interrupt - Halting".

Researching it a bit, people seem to think this could be ANYTHING, and recommend things like disabling BIOS USB support, changing memory timings, etc. I tried the 1st, the 2nd is not possible on this machine. Nothing I tried worked. Many folks on the memtest86+ forums constantly say things like "You must have bad memory!" or, more frequently, that the BIOS is reporting available memory that it actually has reserved.

Has anyone ever been able to get memtest86+ to work on the T400? If not, can you recommend another, just-as-good memory testing utility?

IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE T400 RIGHT NOW!!!! Use the tests lenovo supplies. 50 of those should do the trick.

Thanks for the info - why are you "yelling", though?

Also, what do you mean by "50 of those"? 50 tests? I didn't find a boot-time memory test, just "Lenovo System Toolbox" which runs under Windows.

I believe there is an option in the bios for a boot time memory test. Also, there is a full compliment of tests... its that Doctor something thingee. Which I've replace with a more comprehensive version... also free. I think he meant "50" to indicate their are reall a whole lot of tests available.. that come with the system.

Btw, I didn't read the whole thread, but I assume you've disconnected as much "stuff" as you can for purposes of process of elimination... that error you describe sounds like a conflict hardware/driver kind of deal.

Yelling to get you attention. I almost had my mobo replaced bcuz I couldn't run memtest. I was referring to the memory test in the rescue and recovery suite. You should be able to run it from a recovery partition or burn its CD. 50 is the number of repetitions you should run. Often times, one memory test will not show an error if the RAM is just going bad, you need several to make sure your RAM is good. It will give you an option of how many times to run.
