Stereo Re-mix thread (was T61/p Sound Recording?)

#1 Post by eecon » Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:37 am

An interesting excerpt from the Online Edition of the Wall Street Journal today:

"In coming weeks, it will pay to keep a wary eye on Lenovo, the computer maker that bought International Business Machines' PC business, as its very capable chairman, Yang Yuanqing, is apparently coming under increasing pressure in Beijing from its holding company, Legend Holdings.

Word on the streets of Beijing is that Mr. Yang is caught up in the kind of power struggle that the Communist Party does with such aplomb.

Lenovo has ably attempted to bridge the cultural gap between the U.S. and China, but Legend -- which has close links to the Chinese Academy of Sciences -- is dedicated "to the service of the motherland" and somewhat less international in its orientation."

Maybe the natives in the "motherland" are getting restless that they can't record stuff as easily as before since Lenovo disabled their treasured Stereo-Mix at the hardware level, and the big boss at Lenovo is feeling the heat from his even bigger boss (the People's Boss)?

Maybe there is hope that future Lenovo products will return to the good old days of Stereo-Mix enabled at the hardware level?

Maybe the Chinese government will tell the RIAA to take a hike now that the Olympics are over and thus maintaining good PR with the U.S. entertainment industry is no longer the top priority (i.e. positively spun world-wide Olympic TV and News coverage in prime-time slots or on front pages is no longer needed, thank you)?

Split from thread due to successive gratuitous attacks on Lenovo rather than discussion the Stereo Re-mix topic, and poster PM'd
