R51, R51e LCD Screen Issues - compatibility with T40, T40p
I purchased four Thinkpads (hurray) ...
One was a T40 and the next a T40p both with the infamous ATi dry solder graphics card issues and working LCD screens.
The next is an R51, perfect but just needed a screen, I sucessfully transferred the screen from the T40 and the R51 is working well now.
The final Thinkpad of the four is an R51e type 1843 (it takes DDR2.) It needs a screen but the motherboard is working and boots to the bios on an external monitor.
I've fitted it with the LCD from the T40p FRU P/N 11P8348 - using the existing screen cable and inverter. I've also tried the screen cable and inverter from the T40p also without success.
The LCD backlight comes on but no IBM logo, nothing on the screen at all - no error beeps but I can use the fn F7 key to turn the backlight on and off.
The screen was working on the T40p, displaying garbled output from the T40p's corrrupted graphics card, so if someone could confirm if the high resolution screen from the T40p is incompatible (or not hopefully) with the R51e (type 1843) it would save me a few more grey hairs ...
Thanks in anticipation,
Regards,
Ben

Re: R51, R51e LCD Screen Issues - compatibility with T40, T40p
If your R5x has Intel graphics (full 7 character model number being???) it will not support the SXGA+ LCD from T40p....
Even if that's not the case, I don't believe that R51e was ever offered with a 14" SXGA+, hence the odds of getting it to work are pretty slim...
I'm hesitant to suggest any possible ways out without knowing the full model number of the given R51e.

Thanks for the reply
The full model No. of the R51e is:
TYPE 1843-AA5 S/N L3-L4117 06/06
It's seems to have ATi graphics, and a 1.86Mhz Centrino arrangement, as mentioned before, it boots to BIOS on an external monitor.
