[T40p] Bios & Embedded Controller update

#1 Post by STING » Tue Jan 18, 2005 5:11 am

Hi,

I'm the owner of a T40p IBM Thinkpad.
I noticed it has a very old BIOS & embedded controller version.
BIOS 2.02, Embedded controller 2.01.

So I want to upgrade both to the latest versions available.
But both updates report they need a certain higher BIOS/embedded controller version.

What happens if I first upgrade the Embedded controller, which requires a higher BIOS version? Will I then still be able to (re)boot up the PC to Windows, to then install the newer BIOS?

How can I update both components safely?
Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
STING

I have an T40p, too, and did the same upgrades.
Just start upgrading with any of the two (e.g. BIOS). there is no difference.

The readme states that you should start with the ECP if you want to update both but obviously this is just a recommendation and it will work the other way, too.
It's a trick. Get an axe.

Yeah I've read that part about the update order,
I just wasn't sure about it, because of the version requirements of both components.

Well, I just upgraded both succesfully, so no worries anymore.
Thanks :)

I did the non-diskette ECP and BIOS updates (in that order). No problems. It seems to work fine with the new ECP and old BIOS until you've got the BIOS updated too.
