Ebay rant, when did they start doing involuntary holds?

#1 Post by jamerslong » Fri Jan 09, 2009 5:23 pm

So i sold that T23 on ebay right :)

PAYPAL Held the buyers payment until he decides it's good enough for him and then prey to god paypal gives me my money....

I understand it is to prevent fraud... but seriously i wish i had been warned about it. this policy change really lights my buttons

if only the glitch in the system didnt exsist... then i wouldnt have my money right now.

has anyone had a bad experience with the hold thing yet? it sounds like playing with fire.

I really hope he's not being scammed.

Well... seems PayPal really holds payments.

He's not being scammed. This policy went into the effect a few months ago, search for my thread "Time to flee fleabay if you're a seller"...it's all there...found it:

Maybe it's time to put links to websites exposing PayPal and their scams back in my signature...

Apart from the rip-off premiums that eBay/PayPal extort, I conform to all their requirements,
and have not had any delays with payments from any buyers or payments to any sellers.
That doesn't mean I like it, but my activities on eBay are not impeded in any way.
As long as some eejit is willing to pay $40.- for a defective piece of equipment or pay a good price for something else I bought cheap, I'm continuing selling there.

At first I was worried that I had been scammed, but I pinged the Address I was viewing and it came back fine.
I was amazed when I logged into Pay Pal and saw this, Pay Pal is bad with holding money, Involuntary holds on money is wrong. I found a trick that got me my money less a penny, but I don't have to worry about Pay Pal freezing my funds because someone left a neg, and waiting 21 days if you have someone who wont give feedback... grrrr.

I wont mention how I got my money released from the Pay Pal death grip here just because I am unsure if anyone would find it Unethical to speak of it. I wish Pay PAl had better Ethics....

And on another note, 5$ fee to take a 165$ payment is Insanity.... goodbye E-bay.... hello craigslist... Thieves

I can understand trying to protect the consumer from scammers, but this opens up sellers to easy scamming... I mean, i go and buy something I know will be flagged. file a complaint and wait. my money is locked up in the sellers account so i just wait it out and i will get the money because Pay Pal thinks that all sellers are Con Artists...

FYI, craigslist is already partly owned by eBay.
It's only a matter of time till you get screwed over there in the same way...

I'm not too worried about Craigslist. It doesn't enforce anything and warns the users of potential fraud. That's it. If they change Craigslist's fundamental idea of letting the users run it and not getting too involved, then it's no longer craigslist and everyone will flock to another site.
