Windows 7 (Beta) on a T60
Hello,
I've decided to give the Windows 7 Beta a go on my T60. Has anyone else tried this yet?
I'm not entirely sure what drivers to install. I assume I can just use the Vista ones, but I'm testing the 64-bit version of Windows 7, so I'm not sure if there's any distinction between the two. All I know is 32-bit XP right now, so this is a pretty big jump in my knowledge. Windows has offered a couple drivers supposedly from Lenovo and ATI, but I'm not sure whether I should trust them or try to figure out what to get on the IBM Driver Matrix page.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
PS-
Thinkpad model/specs are in my sig, I simply swapped out my hard drive for the beta.

Lmao, thanks Johan.
I've been camping this forum for too long - I forgot about the upper branches of this forum since I come straight here.
As for Win7 on T60, well.. I dont have my T42 anymore, so...
Still, it should be a pretty good fit considering T60's also supproted Vista, it minimizes the amount of conflicts I guess.
Thanks again for the quick tip, I'll mosey on over there now.

Re: Windows 7 (Beta) on a T60
i'll keep this alive by saying i put it on my t60p in x64. the display brightness buttons dont seem to work. can't get active protection to work and cant get on screen stuff to work (volume display and those notifications that work similarly).
Re: Windows 7 (Beta) on a T60
Finally got my 320gb Western Digital and thus armed with oodles of space installed Windows XP and Windows 7 Beta.
Thus far I am enjoying Windows 7 on my T60 more than XP and definitely more than Vista. Everything appears to be functional now too since upek has drivers and software available for the fingerprint reader. The FN keys I use most often appear to be working. Still need to map the thinkvantage button to open up the control panel. Not sure I like the Libraries in windows explorer. They are nice in theory but are apt to make me even lazier about organizing files. I like the new taskbar mainly because it can effectively be used on the side of the screen rather than at the top like i like it. On my widescreen desktop display this is quite nice as that portion of the screen isn't used when I am working in office or firefox.

Re: Windows 7 (Beta) on a T60
I have Windows 7 beta running great on my T60.
I have been experiencing problems with the latest version of Firefox being pretty crash happy when downloading pictures. I like to download a lot of those 'demotivational' and 'lolcat' pics, but after the 10th download or so, it hangs. I can reproduce the problem at will. I have also sent about 30 crash reports to Microsoft. It's a beta OS so I don't hold the frequent crash against it.
Office 2007 and Quickbooks load up like greased lightning compared to the app load times under XP or Vista. Most of my games run just fine with the exception of Master of Orion 2 which was relased pre Y2K and has run fine under every other version of Windows since 98. Other games such as Deus Ex, WoW, and even some of my old dos games such as Jones in the Fast Lane run fine (with DosBOX of course).
Video playback is great. I installed the VistaCodec package, VLC, and Quicktime. Now I can open most if not all video types I run across. I haven't had a problem with Windows 7 corrupting my .MP3 files either.
The speed of the OS is very apparent throughout. Under heavy load with a few excel files open, 1 or 2 access DB's, quickbooks, dreamweaver, photoshop, firefox and IE the OS still remains quite quick in how it handles user requests. The new taskbar is freaking awesome. I pinned all of my most used apps to it and having it group via window and the mouse over previews are great. I know vista had previews, but I like how 7 groups it all nice and tidy like.
Overall I am very pleased to date with the Beta. I sincerely hope Microsoft continues to refine it so that when it ships it will be an OS to be proud of.

Re: Windows 7 (Beta) on a T60
I've just installed Windows 7 on my T60.
I downloaded and installed most drivers except for Client Security Solution, which is not available for Win 7.
The System Update program was installed but does not work apparently because the Levono site is blocking its access.
Although I've not installed any application programs, I am happy with the way Windows 7 speeds things up.
