Upgrading T500 with WWAN - which card?

#1 Post by Eco » Sun Jan 11, 2009 12:23 pm

I want to upgrade a T500 with Wireless WAN for use in Europe. According to the Hardware Maintenance Guide, I should get an Ericsson F3507g (FRU 42T0959). But according to the ThinkWiki T500 page, it's a Sierra Wireless MC8755 card. Anyone knows who's right?

And with such an upgrade, is there a risk that I run into trouble for the card not being whitelisted or something like that? It'll be used with Linux.

Tips on where to order the card are also appreciated.

Cheers!

You need the Ericsson card, it has to be Lenovo-branded, and then there won't be a problem with the BIOS. In any other case, you'll need a patched one.

Perhaps ask any laptop service center about the FRU or try eBay.

Thanks Zender. Would you happen to know whether I would need to order any additional parts for a T500, e.g. an antenna?

If you can find a SIM card slot (perhaps under the battery?) then highly probably not.
