WAS THE BSOD ROOT CAUSE IDed? (w/ Intel Turbo Mem &/or APS)

Hello Thinkers,

About those nasty BSODs that people began to experience with Vista on the x6x generation ThinkPads....

Would you please share your insights into the cause of the problem?

Most important: What EXACTLY have Lenovo and Intel shared publicly about this?

What else do we suspect?

I don't care about the fix. I am asking about the CAUSE -- the MECHANISM -- because every "fix" I hear is an off-hand remark, detached from an explanation:

"Turn off hybrid HDD caching." "Unplug Turbo Memory." "Uninstall the drivers." "Update to the newest drivers and BIOS." "Use a USB floppy with the SATA drivers on them."

See what I mean?

It's wearing me out to read all the old threads, and then to hear nothing since. (I for one just got my first 'boot-time' BSOD this week, with newest drivers and BIOS on a fresh Vista SP1, and it falls squarely in the old pattern.)

If you know someone who knows something, PM them and get them to contribute to this thread -- to my knowledge, there isn't one.

I have a theory, but I need to know if I've missed something first.

Thanks for sharing your understanding.
