Freezing A22m

#1 Post by bigdaddymerk » Tue Jan 18, 2005 2:44 pm

Firstly Hello, I'm a newbie in desperate need of any help on offer.

Secondly:

I'm the owner of an IBM thinkpad A22M

For weeks now I've been experiencing complete freeze on my thinkpad after about 20 mins of running. At first I thought this maybe a software problem so formatted and installed xp.

This did not solve the problem, I noticed that the machine froze usually
when the cpu was being pushed (i.e. could leave the machine running as a
file server and it was fine) Things like scrolling in IE or firefox would
send the cpu up to 90% or more.

I'd noticed that the fan on the laptop had not been heard for a good while and this maybe the possible cause. It just wasn't kicking in at all.

Jumped onto Ebay, bought a 'in good working order' fan from someone in LA
.
Tonight I have fitted it and alas the machine freeze after about 20 mins.

I'm beginning to think this is maybe a cpu or motherboard problem?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Merkio

I can feel airflow from the vent at the back of the unit when I turn on the machine.

If the fan isn't working, connect it to a 9 volt battery, see if it spins up then. If so, you have a bad daughterboard, if i remember correctly there is a seperate board that the fan connects into
