X61s LS 7700 Overheating problem with Bios 2.19
X61s LS 7700 Overheating problem with Bios 2.19
I upgraded to Bios version 2.19 and my Thinkpads X61s LS 7700 automatically shuts down after about 30min to 1 hour. It appears to be an overheating problem. I am running three similar machines, two with Linux Opensuse 11.1 64-bit, one with Windows Vista 64-bit
All three show the same symptoms and shut down within minutes of each other.
Bios version 2.18 did not have this problem, but about 2 or 3 previous versions led to the same problem which is quite annoying. I will surely go back to 2.18, but wonder if I am the only one experiencing this or if Lenovo is simply unable to fix this issue.

I don't have this problem, same machine, same BIOS running Vista Home Premium. Try running Core Temp and checking CPU temps. I doubt that heat is what is causing the shut downs. My machine idles at 39*c @ 1.6Ghz, both cores. Very cool ...

Re: X61s LS 7700 Overheating problem with Bios 2.19
Very interesting. Thanks. I was running core Temp on my Windows machine. At around 1-5 % load it flucatuates between 59 and 61° c. I have do correct my last answer as well. My Thinkpads show the same problem with Bios 2.18 as well.
I am quite confused because all 3 machines show the same behaviour of powering down, but two run on Linux and one on Windows. So any enlightening as to what may cause this would be very appreciated. Even more how to get rid of it of course.
What I do notice is that the room temperature increased a bit in the last few day due to heating and I wonder if the additional 1 or 2 ° c were sufficient to cause this problem.

Thermal shutdown doesn't happen until the 90-95C range.

I'm wondering if I'm having the same problem.
Every once in awhile, my computer randomly turns off. I have no idea why, but most of the time it happens when its in the base station and driving my 24" dell.
I just downloaded coretemp and will watch it, but I'm wondering if there is another reason for random shut downs? It doesn't even log off, the screen just fades, and I look and its off.
Right now, my two cores are at around 70 degrees C.
