New video drivers, confusing description on Lenovo site

#1 Post by boofoo » Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:18 pm

A new set of video drivers appeared on the support page for my X60s: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67838
But the description is confusing. It indicates:

1. Support for the following two chipsets:
- Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (GL960 - Intel X3100)
- Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (GM965 - Intel X3100)
2. Support for the following list of models:
- ThinkPad R60, R60e
- ThinkPad R61 (Types 7732, 7733, 7734, 7735, 7736, 7737, 7738, 8930, 8932, 8933, 8934, 8935, 8936, 8937, 8942, 8943, 8944, 8945, 8947, 8948, 8949)
- ThinkPad R61e
- ThinkPad R61i (Types 7650, 7732, 8932, 8943)
- ThinkPad T60 (Types : 19xx)
- ThinkPad T61
- ThinkPad X60, X60s, X60 Tablet
- ThinkPad X61, X61s, X61 Tablet
- ThinkPad Z61e, Z61m, Z61t
3. The following bullet point in the summary of changes:
[Important] End of support for the models with Intel 940GML/945GM Chipset.
* ThinkPad T60 (Machine Type: 19xx only)
* ThinkPad R60,R60e,X60,X60s,X60 Tablet,Z61e,Z61m,Z61t.
This is all very self-contradictory: does this driver support the 940/945 or not? Does "end of support" mean "this is the last version of the driver that will appear" or "this new driver does not support 940/945"?
Has anyone installed the new driver and seen the results?

Yes it is confusing. I was installing windows XP on X60(1706) just now and couldn't even install this latest version of video driver. After I unzipped the file and tried to run the "Setup.exe" under C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO by double clicking on the file, it kept giving me this error msg "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit."

So I guess when they say this version is the end of the support of GMA945 chips, I guess it actually meant it's the BEGINNING of un-supporting of those older video chips.

I will try to see if I can find the older version of the drver for my X60.
