#1 Post by atct86 » Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:17 pm

I acquired a Dell b.g wifi card.

How do I do the CMOS hack to get it to work with my T40?

Get the no-1802 program. Make a boot disk, copy the file toboot disk. Run theboot disk on start up, then execute the no-1802 program. Install the card, you are are good to go.

Also does thic hack damage the Thinkpad in any way or lead to the possobility of problems in the future?

FWIW, the linux version of no-1802 also works fine (again at http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~mjg59/thinkpad/hacks.html). I now use the Intel Wireless/Pro 2915 a/b/g card without problems. Last time I checked, that card was still not offered by IBM :-)

What made you choose 2915 over the IBM mini-PCI II (AR5004X chipset)?

Availability of an open linux driver which will eventually be incorporated into the standard kernel (as opposed to madwifi's hal).
