COM+ Event System doesn't start automatically

#1 Post by ninjaronin18 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 12:15 am

Hey all,

I recently had to fresh install xp pro on my thinkpad t61p. Everything is going well except for COM+ Event System service won't start automatically after booting up. I've researched the web and deleted the corresponding registry keys and then reinstalled it using an xp CD from from my university. Still doesn't work though! I've concluded that the COM+ Event System service is indirectly responsible along with other services for loading networking services. I can still connect to the internet but I have to manually start up the service. Any proposed resolutions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a silly question, but did you actually try setting it to automatic startup type under the services console (run -> services.msc)?

Yeah, I did that. Anyways, I thought I had resolved the problem by installing some system updates because I noticed it started right up after a couple trial reboots. But I just rebooted it again, and it didn't work.

I've just realized that most of my services set to automatic takes awhile to load. So now, I'm thinking I need to configure something in the boot process.

Ok, so apparently COM+ Event System has nothing to do with wifi. I think now my services just take forever to load even though sometimes it says started on the services.msc page.

fyi, COM+ Event System is set to manually start on my system and that doesn't seem to have any negative effects whatsoever.

Reading both of your posts about your "services" issue I think you simply suffer from slow boot. The point in slow boot is simply that you have to wait until you can start any application, and then the first application start is (typically) slow. I think you related this issue to the services knowing that some of them are also responsible for the start of some applications. If so, then your problem is not really in the windows services, but something else that significantly slows down your boot process (it could be almost everything: from M$ updates, through Lenovo software, drivers, to AV).

Any suggestions on how I can fix it? I've updated my system. Could it possibly be just a windows settings problem that I can easily fix?

I used to have slow boot problems on my T43 until I used TuneUp utilities 2009. It is available as a 30 day trial. I bought it and love its simplicity for sorting out registry problems ... one of the inherant nightmares of Windows. I belive CCleaner is good too but not quite as sophisticated.

TuneUp Utilities is indeed a nice piece of software (I also have it installed on my ThinkPad), especially if one wants to customize windows (XP or Vista), but I would be very careful with its regcleaner feature. While it can solve some issues, it could also break a lot of things. if you want to use it safely, you will have to go through all suggested entries one by one to check if it is not indeed needed by the system (supposed you have the knowledge and time to do that). This applies to every registry cleaning or repairing program. On a fresh install of XP there shouldn´t be anyway any application for a regcleaner (regcleaners make sense mostly if you have installed and uninstalled a lot of programs).

It could be many things. I replied in your other thread. See if a clean install of XP the way I suggest there will help somewhat.
