Installed WAN card in T400, but it is not detected?

#1 Post by tbessie » Fri Jan 16, 2009 3:28 am

I have a T400 that I just added the AT&T WAN card to, connected it all up just as the maintenance manual shows. But the device does not appear in the Device Manager, and when I run Mobile Broadband Connect I see "No wireless mobile broadband device found"".

Has anybody out there solved this? My machine is "Mobile Broadband Ready" (the leads were there, the card slot was there, SIM came with the computer, etc.). I was meticulous in installing the card, although I *did* notice that the leads that went into the slot were not completely engulfed by the slot. Still, the screw holes in the card were directly over the holes in the chassis, so it appeared to be seated correctly. Also, there was a foam pad on one edge of the area the card went into, which meant that the card had to be pushed down a bit to be level with the slot. I was supposing that this was on purpose, to make the card pop up when the screws were removed.

Any help?

Lenovo Part #: 43R9152

Actually, I have solved this problem... I installed the latest BIOS (which just was released the other day, and contained supposedly only minor fixes), and told it to use default settings.

Then, when I restarted, the WWAN magically appeared in Windows.

I don't know why the last BIOS didn't seem to enable it... very odd.
