T61 memory question

#1 Post by kangazoom » Fri Jan 16, 2009 4:37 am

Hi everyone, my T61 currently runs on 3gb of memory (it takes up one slot-1 DIMM?). I want to upgrade to 4gb.

I figure I have two options:
(a) Buy 1gb of memory, install it in the other slot
(b) Remove the 3gb - buy two 2gb and install them in the two separate slots

Choice A seems to be the more straightforward choice (and is less expensive), but I thought that I'd remembered reading somewhere that memory would run more efficiently with choice B.

Any thoughts?

3GB DDR2 in one DIMM? That's not something I have ever heard of.

Sure it's not just 2GB + 1GB hypermemory?

good point.

part number 41W2067
VBB 3GB PC2-5300 667MHZ 2DIMM

could that be two separate DIMMs?

Most definitely 2 modules (2GB + 1GB). It even says "2DIMM".

Single 3GB modules were never produced.

fyi, you need a 64-bit OS to make use of the full 4GB. With Win XP or Vista 32, you will not see any performance improvements by going from 3 to 4 GB ram.

I don't want to create another topic, because I have the same question. What type of memory should I use for my T61p. I need to know a good ram that will not bsod on me when I put it in. I am replacing a 2 x 1GB that is already in my system for a 4GB. Which one should I buy?

Each has a cast 4 so I wonder what I should go with. Which is the best quality for my laptop? Thanks a bunch.
