56W vs 72W AC Adapter
56W vs 72W AC Adapter
Not exactly a T4x Series question, but I'm curious to know if I should be concerned about using the 56W adapter with my T42. I ordered a 72W off ebay and was sent the 56W (FRU 02K6816). It seems to work with my T42 - is there any reason to worry about it?

Yes, it's not powerful enough and might overheat.
Return it for the 72W or your (full) money back.
Negative feedback comes to mind and/or a dispute for not-as-described.

Many thanks for the quick response. Would the 56W adapter be sufficient for a X41?

Re: 56W vs 72W AC Adapter
I have been using my 14.1" T42 with a 56W AC adapter made by Lenovo (not IBM) for many months and haven't had any issue. The AC adapter doesn't get abnormally warm. This is actually a souped-up T42 with a 1600x1200 screen, so it would consume more power than your T42. So I'm fairly sure it's okay for your T42. BUT, my battery is always fully charged, so the AC adapter only has to supply the power for operating the laptop. I haven't used this T42 while it's charging, and a 56W adapter might not be capable of doing both simultaneously.
Definitely return it for the 72W, since the 72W is what you expected to get and it's worth more money too. But like I said, it should be okay to use the 56W temporarily as long as you fully charge the battery before turning on the laptop.RealBlackStuff wrote:Return it for the 72W or your (full) money back.
I would use the negative feedback only after trying to work things out with the seller or going through the dispute process. If you leave the seller a negative feedback right away, there would be no incentive for him/her to fix the problem.RealBlackStuff wrote:Negative feedback comes to mind and/or a dispute for not-as-described.
