T42 Will not switch Power source from ac to battery.
T42 Will not switch Power source from ac to battery.
Coffee was spilled on the table the T42 was setting on and now it will power up from the ac adapter and show 100% battery charge but when you unplug the power cord it will not switch to the battery it dies.
I pulled the motherboard out and found a small area on the motherboard near the battery plug where the coffee had got in i cleaned the area up and examined the area with a loupe didn't see anything burnt.
I tried to boot after cleaning the area with the battery, still not booting.
Everything seems to work fine except the battery.
any idea's thinking maybe a fuse but not sure?

where is the fuse located. I have a fried(half fried ) T41 -2373 ,Now being used to exhibit what IBM usedto do under the guise of "Hardware Maintenence".
Their part diagram is good only for unscrewing a component..not reparing anything....
Poor, me, I had thought I will become a qualified Thinkpad repairman with their Heavy and Thick Hardware repair manual.

you just have to look around for them, there are a few on there. just look for the fuse in the photo. they are really small. smaller then a sprinkle yould find on a cupcake., so you really have to look.

Re: T42 Will not switch Power source from ac to battery.
I've checked every fuse that i could find and they are all good. (Thanks for the road map)
Fuse F9 and F12 are in the area that the coffee got to the board but they are not open.

How about removing the battery and giving that a good clean ... and its terminals? Then dry it off completely and try plugging it back in. Keep us informed.

Re: T42 Will not switch Power source from ac to battery.
I've been trying to follow this diagram to solve my problem http://dbhome.dk/sma/t41/t41_block_01_v1.1.pdf
I have 12Vdc at J13
and through fuse 12
I also get 12V out the Drain on chip TPC8014 With almost 2v on the gate
No voltage at the drain on chip TPC8111 There is 11v on the gate
If i jumper the source to the drain on TPC8111 I get 12v to system DC but it still will not boot.
