Swapping out the power jack on the T42 - Help Please!

#1 Post by EllsBells » Mon Jan 19, 2009 2:28 am

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone could please help me. I've tried to follow the instructions from one of the members of this site about how to strip down the t42 in order to get at the yellow power jack which has come loose. I've got to the stage now where I can touch and wriggle it, but can't slide it out due to component parts on the base in front of it, and can''t lift it out due to a grey metal bar thing which runs the length of the back of the T42. It's this which I can't figure out how to remove.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Ells (nervously looking at her laptop in lots of little bits) :(

You lift out the MB with the gray bar attached. Make sure all the bottom screws are removed. The two audio jacks on the left side will need to be pushed inward to release the MB. The three screws on the CPU fan does not need to be removed. There is a screw behind a black dot near the USB ports. There are a few small screws holding the gray bar on the right side.

The gray bar comes off the MB by removing the two hex lugs.

dont forget about the screw near the usb (on the side - not under the dot - thats on R5x - it is visible after you remove the bezel) and the one underneath the audio jacks

ah - also the two speaker screws and the two screws under the pcmcia slots need to be removed in order to avoid flexing when lifting the board

Shame it's the first thing they install! Have to remove darn near everything!

Don't know how far Newcastle Upon Tyne is from you, but there's a very knowledgeable forum member poshgeordie there, whom you should perhaps send a PM if you get stuck!

The T4x is really the platform that drove me to buy a power screwdriver, way too many screws.
