W700 owners - I have a few questions

#1 Post by RonS » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:26 pm

I recently placed an order for a W700ds. I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find info on...

1. Is is possible to use two of the DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA at the same time? That is, can you drive two external monitors plus the built-in monitor simultaneously? I suspect not, but I'm still hoping.

2. If anyone has a W700ds, can you run the second build-in screen AND an external screen at the same time?

3. Will the W700 fit on an Advanced Dock? It sure would be nice to have a PCI-Express expansion option.

4. Will any legacy batteries fit, or is the battery a whole new form factor for the W700?

5. According to Lenovo, You can't use a DisplayPort-to-DVI cable with the W700 because the W700 supports "DisplayPort only operating mode." Does anyone have any insight into this limitation?

Thanks!

3. The port replicator is unique to the W700 and has no PCI spot.
4. The battery is unique to the W700 and fits in underneath rather than on the back.

That's the best I can do. I do love mine, Ron.

ron,

1 & 2: if memory serves, the W700ds can only drive two displays simultaneously.   this would include a choice of the main plus secondary display, the main plus an external display, or two external displays.

5: this is only a guess but it could be that the limitation comes from the DVI channel being split out into its own port.
