How to configure R50p and T42 for sale

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Tue Jan 20, 2009 5:30 pm

In a short while I will be selling both an R50p and T42. I have a 40GB 5400RPM drive and a 60GB 7200RPM drive, and a DVD-RW and a DVD/CD-RW drives. I'm trying to figure out what machine to put what parts in. The 7200RPM and dvd burner would be the "premium" options obviously and the 5400RPM and combo drive would be "economy". Both have the same memory and CPU. The R50p has a 15" UXGA flexview and the T42 has a 14.1" XGA TFT screen.

So the R50p should be the premium computer, but T42's seem to sell better because they are "newer". Any thoughts?

I forgot to mention that the T42 isn't in the best cosmetic condition. Overall, its in fairly good condition, with 3 exceptions:
1. There's a scratch on the LCD (long like 3 inches)
2. Its missing the PCMCIA door
3. There is/was a crack on the palmrest that has been repaired.
Other than that its in very good condition. The LCD is bright and the keyboard has very little shine.

I can replace the base and palmrest if I have trouble selling it.

Why don't you put up both for sale in the same ad, barebones, with an option to buy additionally a HD or optical drive?
Offer option 5400 HD at $a.- or 7200 HD at $b.-
Same for the DVD-RW/DVD-CDRW at $x.- or $y.-
And mention that the leftover laptop gets the leftover HD and Optical.
Offer s set of Restore CDs for each laptop, which people could use with their own drive(s).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Personally, I'd leave the T42 as the economy machine, and give R50p its due, which means 60/7200 and multiburner...and I've never had a problem selling a good R50p, which is more than I can say for a vanilla T42...

My $0.02 only...
