Ubuntu compatible PCMCIA Wireless Adapter with WPA2

#1 Post by I Use Dial » Thu Jan 22, 2009 2:19 am

Just wondering if anyone here has had a good experience with a wireless card in Ubuntu. I'm running 8.04 LTS.

Thanks!

Intel hardware usually works the best out of the box.

I'm running Win XP Pro and Ubuntu 8.10 (dual boot) on my A31.
I have a Belkin 54Mb/s PCMCIA WiFi card installed in my A31.
The card was recognized during install of Ubuntu and works fine in WPA-PSK mode with my router.

For what it's worth, on my Thinkpad 240X I'm running Windows 2000 Professional and Ubuntu 8.04 (dual boot). I've an ASKEY AR5BMB5 mini-PCI 54Mb/s WiFi card installed in the 240X. This card runs fine in WPA-PSK mode under Windows 2000 Professional and Ubuntu 8.04.

Can't test WPA2 as my router doesn't support that mode.
Kind regards,

Erik

WPA2 is relatively new, so get a new card such as 11n versions. AES supported by WPA2 is required by 11n. So all 11n cards will support WPA2. Some older 11g cards will have driver update to support WPA2. XP SP3 support WPA2 natively but SP2 may need a separate patch.
