60GB 7200 rpm HD

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Wed Jan 19, 2005 7:28 pm

I want to install a new hardrive on my T30. The one mentioned above. First of all where can I get one at a good deal.

What steps do I go through when swaping a fresh new drive. Is there any configuration that needs to be done prior to the swap.

Anything I should move from my current drive to the new one? I should be able to just install windows XP and be fine?
Any tips, advice would be great
thanks.

You can copy your DRIVERS and IBM TOOLS folder over to the new one if you want or you can download all new and current drivers. As far as installing the drive, its straight forward. Just take out the old one and take off the screws holding it to the caddy then install the new drive.

just make sure you update your BIOS first--your T30 may not recognize the 7K60 hard drive without this: (pls check to get the proper BIOS update specifically for your T30. below link is for T41 and T40).

Critical firmware upgrade for 40GB, 60GB and 80GB hard disk drives - ThinkPad R50, R50p, T41, T41p

This is a hard disk drive (HDD) firmware update. This update will fix early reliability issues in some drives.

This firmware applies to the following IBM systems with 40GB, 60GB, or 80GB hard disk drives:
- ThinkPad R50, R50p
- ThinkPad T41, T41p

Onlyone file is needed to update the firmware. Users with Microsoft Windows can download and apply the non-diskette release.

NOTE: Before running the update, you should save your work and close all open applications.

Price would probably be a lot higher.
