Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
The link to the Microsoft page (at the bottom of the page you referenced) indicates it's a limitation on the OEM licenses.I wonder why it's only for Vista Business and Ultimate systems though?
I used to be an anarchist but I quit because there were too many rules
Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
Because they are more expensive. Plus, they would be shipped with computers geared towards business users that have a need to continue to use XP, home users apparently don'teecon wrote:Hmmmm ...... I wonder why it's only for Vista Business and Ultimate systems though?...
But in any case, this is not news, at the bottom of the page, it says:

Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
I wish they'd offer Win7 upgrade discs considering how buggy Vista has been for so many.

I´m even more radical believing that M$ should offer an upgrade to Win 7 at no expense to those who already have Vista...Radioguy wrote:I wish they'd offer Win7 upgrade discs considering how buggy Vista has been for so many.

That was what I meant to say as well. Naive of me to not say I expect not to pay either.Marin85 wrote:I´m even more radical believing that M$ should offer an upgrade to Win 7 at no expense to those who already have Vista...
I do hope they at least offer a cheaper upgrade compared to the retail ones available.

Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
Either way, it would be nice to have it...whoever's offering it.
I also hope that there's some promotional offers of the final retail versions like there have been for Vista. I'd be willing to view some online MS seminars or even go to a local one for a real copy.
Plus, I may get a donut out of that, too.

Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
I have attended many, many Microsoft conferences / seminars. One thing they arevery good at is giving away piles of schwag.
Last one I attened (A TS2 seminar in Costa Mesa) I go shirts, a 4 port travel USB hub, A full copy of Office 2007 Pro and a (2nd for me) copy of Vista Ultimate.

Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
My guess on offering downgrades for Vista Business is that Vista still presents problems for legacy software. I see that in one client where software vendors have taken from the time XP came out until now to put out XP-compliant software. It will be eons before these same vendors become Vista-compliant.
It is not so much that Vista is buggy (My ten-year record of zero BSOD's on NT systems remains intact with Vista), it is that business software for Vista continues to lag behind.

Re: Lenovo Offers WinXP Downgrade Disks for Some Vista Versions
Exactly. Not to say that Vista was not buggy at all, but most of what users perceived as Vista "bugs" were just compatibility problems with software that was not updated on time and mostly due to poorly written or completely missing drivers for various things.jdhurst wrote:It is not so much that Vista is buggy (My ten-year record of zero BSOD's on NT systems remains intact with Vista), it is that business software for Vista continues to lag behind.
Naturally, Microsoft are partly responsible, but not just them.
