Internally, the T400's Conexant CX20561 supports surround sound (up to 7.1, I think), but the connections for it aren't available. Regarding other factors, the signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range should be slightly worse on the ThinkPad. As far as supported sample rates, this chip does 192 kHz at 24-bits while the Audigy does just 96 kHz. This is a moot point as the difference between the two is completely inaudable.
In short, the two setups do not compare. You would be better off buying an external sound device if you want something like the Audigy SE.

Re: Does T400 soundcard support 4.1 sound system?
So then i can connect 4.1 creative surround system with 400 via dock. And those work like a surround speakers not a just four ordinary speakers?
Edit: When i listening with a creative audiqy SE then the music power is much stronger, more bass and music seems powerful. Like a line strenth is stronger than Conexant soundcard. Other problem may be that, vista thinks that receiver speakers are headphones not speakers!
Do you know what is signal to noise ratio for Conexant? Creative has Signal-to-Noise Ratio (A-Weighted) = 100 dB (2V) and Frequency Response at -3 dBr = <10 Hz to 40 kHz. I think there is coming a difference!
