Still looking for Win98 SE recovery CDs for 600X

#1 Post by digitania » Fri Jan 23, 2009 4:43 pm

I am in DIRE need of a set of Windows 98 Second Edition recovery CD for the Thinkpad 600X.

A kind forum member sent me a set a while back, but unfortunately he sent two CDs in one CD envelope -- optical surfaces facing each other -- and both CDs were ruined in the mail.

If you have a set that you would be willing to copy for me, or a set that you can spare, PLEASE reply or PM me. I have three 600Xs I need to reload and upgrade.

Thank you for your help.

Have you tried copying the CDs with a program that error corrects? Depends on how badly they were damaged but I would think you can only do so much damage in the mail (?)

Keith,

Actually, yes, I did... and that was even after I had a local used video/music/game store I frequent run the discs through their very high-end polisher/resurfacer. The damaged areas were far too extensive and deep to recover the entire disc's data.

Moral of the story - NEVER put two CDs in one CD envelope for mailing. In fact, if you're me, you don't even use the envelopes; you use those semi-rigid plastic cases (not jewel boxes, but the softer kind).
