Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and X61s
Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and X61s
I have X61s with bluetooth and want to buy a wireless mouse, that will preferably work without a USB dongle.
Did anybody try this mouse with X61s (or on any other laptop of the X6x series)?
This mouse comes with a 2.4GHz bluetooth USB dongle. Will it work without the dongle?
Do you have other suggestions for a wireless mouse?
Thank you,
Yoram.

I am not much of a Bluetooth fan, but I really like the Microsoft wireless mouse model 1007. If you can find one of those, get it. Just the right size and it is very responsive. The smaller size mouse controllers are awful to use and invite cramping and carpal tunnel.

Re: Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and X61s
I recently got a Dell (made by Logitech) 5-Button Bluetooth Travel Mouse ($25 in the US.) It works so well with both my X61s and T60p using their built-in Bluetooth that I've just ordered a second mouse. Bluetooth is a big plus for portable applications because it avoids the need for a dongle like other wireless mice which can get lost, bumped into and broken, or simply "waste" a USB port. IMO this is especially important on a X61s because there are only 3 USB ports and they are all on the sides.
You will have to install the Dell (rebranded Logitech SetPoint) software and then update the usual sensitivity, etc. settings to taste but that's about it. Battery life (2x AA) seems good, at least a month or two, according to reviews I've read.
This is a travel mouse so it is a bit smaller than regular ones. That may be an issue, especially if you have large hands. I found that my hand got over the smaller mouse size very quickly and I now find it quite comfortable. While waiting for the second mouse to arrive I've been switching between it on the X61s and my old mouse on the T60p without any problems.
P.S. You can get the same mouse in shiny black for $5 less here although the regular matte black matches ThinkPads much better. Unfortunately the Dell logo is molded into the case so it's not so easy to remove

Re: Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and X61s
I have the Microsoft Bluetooth Laser Mouse 5000 and it works without any problems with my X61s. Just pair the mouse to the laptop once and it'll stay paired (ie. no re-pairing each time you turn the mouse off/on)
I really recommend the 5000, since it has an ON/OFF switch, is small but comfortable, is cheaper than the 8000, and has a long battery life.
Cheers

The Microsoft 8000 mouse requires 2.4GHz bluetooth.
How can I check the frequency of my BT?
