When scanning photos into my computer how can I make there not be white space all around the photo? Is there a way to accomplish this?

Scanning software usually contain the function to select and scan only some area of the flatbed. If it's not used entire flatbed is scanned and saved and you have to edit the scanned pictures later in some software (Photoshop, PaintShop, etc.)

usually there is a pre-scan function that lets you see the image on the flatbed as if it were the actual scanned image. From there it lets you set the parameters of the scan so it doesn't overscan, or you can do like was mentioned earlier, and crop the image after its scanned.

If you software does not offer this, another way would be to make a black template with a corner cut out,
the size of your photos.
