Can I swap my MOBO in my T41p For the T43P MOBO?
What sort of obstacles will I come across? I know the Ram is going to be different, is the T43P ATA/SATA HDD?

I do a lot of MAYA and 3D.

Is this doable?

I have the 14.1".

I will be attempting the reflow tonight, does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm going to be copying the you tube video I found.

The only real difference is the PC card cage. Everything else will fit. Don't try to move your hard drive without reinstalling. The T43 uses a different HAL than the T41.

I will have to reinstall windows? so the pci slot won't work huh? Anything else?

Do the t42(p) and t43(p) all use the same MOBO or is there a better one I should look for?

I'm a handy guy, not a computer expert but I can hold my own.

The board I'm looking at is the "FRU:42T0073"

I think you should reinstall OS. Others have gotten T40/41/42 installs to work, but there are glitches forever. There are two basic types of T43 boards. One type has ATI graphics, like all the T40/41/42 machines and is subject to the same GPU issue that is discussed at length all over this forum. The other type has Intel graphics. If you have a T41p, you have a 14" SXGA screen and you need the ATI version. You will need T43 recovery disks. There are 2 separate sets: one for Intel, and one for ATi. The one you need is for model numbers that start 28xx.

If you get a complete base, it will come with the PC card slots, otherwise, you will need one. You can reuse everything, but HD will probably give you 2010 error.

Well I'm using a Seagate Momentus with no problems right now.

What is the FRU of the t43p board with the ATI graphics?

Are there any preventative measures that work for keeping the GPU firmly seated/attached?

All T43 discrete GPU's are ATI. A Intel intergrated GPU is available on the T43 that was not available on the eariler T4x's. The T43 ATI GPU was available in 64mb and 128mb versions. The FRU of the motherboard you mentioned is 128mb. A T43 style long fan would be required for this board. A T40/41/42 long fan will physically fit but would offer less cooling than is recommended for your GPU.

The memory for the T40/41/42 is DDR and for the T43 it is DDR2. So your memory will not fit or work in the T43. The bus speed is different 400 V 533 between the two. Your CPU should work but at a slower speed.

Aside from the PC card slots mentioned the boards are physically the same and will fit without issue.

I have not seen a loose GPU failure on a T43. There have been reports here by others though.

Right, because you don't have a T43 yet. This problem only exists with T43. Check the sticky thread:

I do still have my 60 gb/7200 rpm but it is locked. It won't take my password either. Is this a known problem or is my hard drive somehow damaged? Never hit the ground, never fell or anything like that. I just bought a 2.5-3.5 ide cable so I can hook it up to my desk top.

So I will try to reflow my t41p board tonight. IF that doesn't work I will be purchasing the t43p board ( have a sleeper t41p lol). Which is the fastest processor that I can possibly put on the t43p board?

Didn't the t43p come with a centrino?
