AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
hi all,
hope sombody can help me.
on a t41 i installed a clean xp sp2. then i installed the driver with the yellow excalamation.
after installation of the hotkeydriver, wlan driver powermanagement driver windows can configure the wireless adapter and the communication is ok. then i installed access connections 5.12.
when i try to use access connections to configure the wireless adapter then i got the message that the wireless connection is eabled but not assigned (in german: funkverbindung eingeschaltet, aber nicht zugeordnet).
are there any prerequisites for the installation?
ist there any installation-order for installing the drivers and software?
my configuration:
IBM T41 2374-G99
11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter (ar5211.sys 4.1.2.156)
powermanagement driver 1.51
hotkeydriver 1.31.0610
AC 5.12 and 4.52 same issue:
the same i asked in: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/mess ... d.id=26636
hope on any ideas, robert

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
According to the AC 5.12 documentation it supports the IBM a/b/g card version 4.102.15.56. That looks close but not the same as your card. It may just be the way you typed it into your post.
Assuming the card driver is correct for this version of Access Connections, try uninstalling AC, uninstalling the wireless driver, restarting, reinstalling the wireless driver, reinstalling AC. I know you just installed all this, but sometimes the reinstall sequence I described helps.
If not, then I don't know. .... JDH

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
sorry, but as in http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67283 "Wireless driver requirements" the version 4.102.15.56 is for the Broadcom Wireless LAN Adapter. and it is the table for the vista version of AC. expand goes to C:\DRIVERS\Vista\WLLANBCM
my t41 is installed with XP SP2 therefore i used the table of AC for XP http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4ZLNJB ThinkPad Wireless LAN (11a/b/g/n) (Windows XP/2000) 7.4.2.105.
is that not the correct version?

wireless ist OK. i can connect to the accesspoint. fn-f5 is OK
after installing access connection 5.12 rev.3 fn-f5 cannot activat/deactivate wireless adapter.
C:\Programme\Lenovo\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TpFnF5.exe /wloff or /wlon can enable or disable wireless.
C:\Programme\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities\AcFnF5.exe can not.
after deinstall access connection, fn-f5 can enable/disable wireless adapter again.

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
Try uninstalling Access Connections, reboot, then from Add or Remove programs choose Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software and let the software repair the installation. Reboot, then reinstall Access Connections and reboot again.

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
The farthest I got with my T41 and the same wireless driver that you showed was Access Connections 4.42. I see that version is still available on the Lenovo web site, so it might be worth a try. .... JDH
Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
Two things that can cause this: if you have a non-IBM WiFi card in your T41 or you are not using the correct Lenovo version of the wireless driver.
Also make sure you have the correct versions of the Hotkey driver, Power Management driver, and wireless driver. You do not use the Lenovo System Interface driver for XP.
Based on the information you provided, you should be using the following drivers, installed in the following order.
ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me, 98 SE - ThinkPad
Hotkey driver for Windows Vista, XP, 2000 - Notebooks
Wireless LAN software - ThinkPad 802.11ab, 802.11abg, and 802.11bg for Windows 2000 and XP - ThinkPad G40, R40, R50, R50p, R51, R51e, T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, X31, X40, X41
ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows XP, 2000 - Notebooks

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
jdhurst thanks.
which servicepack have you installed? i installad sp3 and then tried to install access connection 4.42. this version said that the os is an unsupported platform. then i restored the ghostimage with sp2 and tried ac 4.42. but sthe same state: ac is not able to controll wlan.
GomJabbar thanks for your reply.
after restoring the ghostimage with sp2, i installed the drivers in order you advised. but til the same: ac is not able to controll wlan
. the same i tried with sp3 but no success.
i do not understand the difference how
C:\Programme\Lenovo\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TpFnF5.exe works and
C:\Programme\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities\AcFnF5.exe. i think here is the problem. TpFnF5.exe can manage wlan, AcFnF5.exe can not.

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
I don't know what your problem is. The only other thing that I know you could try is the back level version of IBM Access Connections + wireless LAN driver pack.
IBM Access Connections (Back level version) for Windows 2000, XP (WARNING: See document for critical installation limitations) - ThinkPad General
You might want to use the older Hotkey driver linked to on that page. The newer ones might not work.

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
I had SP3 installed. I had both 4.42 and 4.41 working with SP3. So I am not sure what the issue is, but it is starting to sound like it might be your card. SP3 works, 4.41 works, 4.42 works, and my wireless driver (4.1.2.156) works as well. I had the machine on about a week ago to get some files from it, so I know it is all working. .... There is this post by antera309 that might get you going.

Oops, that's for the Intel cards. Remembered the post, but not the details. Anyway, perhaps there is still some useful information that can apply to your situation.

Re: AccessConnection 5.12 on T41 with XP SP2
now i have the solution.
the wireless configuration in acess connection has 5 sections. i do not know, how the english name is. i try to translate it:
1) SSID
2) connection type (infrastructure)
3) wireless mode (automatic)
4) securitytype of the wireless connection
here ist the solution: one of the possible selections is to use windows to configure wireless. i selected this, because windows is able to configure the wireless adapter.
5) extended configiuration
thanks all for your answers. i hope, this helps others too.
