TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Hi --
About every 30 minutes when I'm using the TrackPoint the "TrackPoint Scrolling Tips" Window shows up. I can close it, but even if I check "Don't show this reminder again" it reappears about 30 minutes later and I have to close it again. Does anybody know how to permanently disable this window?
Thanks!

Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> UltraNav -> Trackpoint Settings -> Disable Trackpoint scrolling tips. I don´t have the ultranav utility installed, so that´s the windows path for me. It may vary depending on OS and Lenovo software version.
Hope this helps

That's not turning it off. Can I delete the .exe file somewhere perhaps?

Disable that setting and reboot
Deleting .exe files is not a good idea at all...

Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
According to Windows Task Manager, the file is called SynTPLpr.exe, located in %PROGGRAMFILES%\Synaptics folder. It's a "TouchPad Driver Helper Application" and is running all the time, even if you disable the tips. This would hint that the tips aren't its only purpose so deleting it could create new issues.
Anyway, I wouldn't delete any files not knowing what exactly they do and since I haven't seen anyone yet reporting such an issue, there must be something else you can do to make it work properly. I would certainly try to uninstall the UltraNav drivers, reboot and reinstall them back (followed by another reboot).

Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Which version of ultranav/synaptics do you have? The way I described earlier in this thread should work without problems...

My Thinkpad UltraNav utility is version 1.03. After unchecking that box, it rechecks itself when the thing pops up again (about every 30 minutes).

Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Do you use UltraNav utility. If so, perhaps it has also such an option, so you may have to uncheck it in both places...sb37 wrote:My Thinkpad UltraNav utility is version 1.03. After unchecking that box, it rechecks itself when the thing pops up again (about every 30 minutes).

Ultranav utility is the control panel applet -- same thing. I'm thinking i'll just uninstall it though.

Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Did I mention to reboot after unchecking the boxes...
EDIT: ups, sorry, I did

Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem and can't seem to fix it. Does anybody have any other thoughts on this issue?
Re: TrackPoint Scrolling Tips won't go away
Well I am still annoyed by it. For many years now.
Could not figure out how to get rid of it for the life of me.
